Migration under way

What a great week its been. 177 Meadow Pipits ringed (293 ringed in September) some showing some large wings of 86 87 88 mm, probably Icelandic birds. I retraped a Meadow Pipit yesterday which i ringed back on 27/07/2010 on the coast about 1 Km away from the whoosh site.
Also with the weather turning colder more birds are coming into the whoosh sight to feed.

Another 54 Linnets ringed (553 ringed this year) and 35 Goldfinch in with them.

The last bird to be ringed this morning was a Juvenile Lapland Bunting which flew in with a

very nice.

I got a call off Ted on Tuesday to say he had just found a Buff breasted Sandpiper on the beach at Smeale.
20 Min's later i was walking round the beach looking for it, after 2 hours my perseverance paid off.

Also this week a female Goosander was seen on the sea at Ramsey
i caught up with it preening its self under the bridge on Friday
Quite a rare visitor to the island with only a handful seen each year
