Rockits Blast off in 2013

During last week the weather was fantastic on the island, so armed with a tub full of meal worms i decided to concentrate on our colour ring project for Rock Pipits.

We tend to concentrate on 2 main Beach's on the Island
Port Mooar on the east coast and Niarbyl on the west.

A couple of mornings and an afternoon produced 25 new Rock Pipits Colour Ringed, now that doesn't sound like many but last year we only managed 29 all year.

At Niarbyl on Monday I counted 50+ birds feeding on the seaweed, in a couple of weeks these birds will start dispersing to their breeding areas in the small rocky coves and Beach's around the Isle of Man
and hopefully after a successful breeding season will return with their young in August so we can ring a load more.

Also this week a trip to Ballanelson produced 35 new birds ringed mainly Tits
but 2 more Starlings and 3 Greenfinch and a few Blackbirds and House Sparrow are always good.

19 More Linnets ringed at the Point Of Ayre and 22 new Siskin at various sites.

OH and a Treecreeper at Sulby we don't do many of these on the island, only 2 last year.

Also 2 Bewick Swans turned up on friday an Adult and Juvenile found by Ted, as always.
They were in with 30 odd Whoopers, nice one Ted.
