A Pet Parent's Guide to Finding Pet Grooming Florida

By David Russell

Owning a cat or dog means that you are responsible for keeping it healthy and happy. While some pets have short hair and may not need as much care and attention there are some breeds that have long fur that will need more attention. Many pet parents turn to salons offering pet grooming Florida to care for their pets. Here is what you need to know about the grooming process. Knowing more about what your animal needs will help you find the right professional to care for your fur baby.

You may be surprised to find that some groomers have certification and training while others do not. True professionals will have taken courses and continue to do training and participate in workshops to make sure that they keep their skills current. If you want to make sure you are dealing with someone who is familiar with the needs of different breeds and who can give your pet the look you want you may want to look for a groomer who is certified.

Caring for a pet's fur and nails is important. Long nails may make it uncomfortable for your pet to walk and they can even grow back into a pet's paws. If long fur is not cleaned and brushed it can form mats. In time, this can end up causing open sores on a pet's skin.

Many salons will care for dogs but may not want to groom cats. While most felines are able to keep their fur in good condition they may need a little help especially if they are long haired or if they are older. If you do have a cat that needs a little care you may want to call around and find a professional who has experience with felines as well as with canines.

While you may be tempted to hire the first professional who is available and who charges reasonable prices that may not be the best idea. It is a better idea to talk to several companies and find out what is included in the prices they are charging. Some will offer lower cost grooming but not include some basic services such as nail cutting or ear plucking. If you visit a salon make sure it is clean and in a good state of repair.

Some canines will need to be treated in specific ways. Some dogs need to have their hair plucked instead of shaved. Others will need to have their double coats taken into consideration and cannot simply be shave down to get rid of tangles or excess length. Ask how a salon will deal with these situations in order to make sure they know what they are doing.

Some skin conditions require prescription shampoos. If your pup has a condition like this it is important that you discuss it with a potential grooming salon. You should also ask them whether they have other products such as oatmeal baths that will help soothe itchy, irritated skin or if you are allowed to send your own pet shampoo with your pet when it is being groomed.

Finding potential salons is not difficult. You can ask at vet clinics, pet stores or look online. You might also want to ask breeders or individuals who show their animals where they take their pets to be cared for.
