Choosing The Best From The Wholesale Christmas Trees Virginia Farmers Sell

By Dennis Anderson

Opening a holiday tree lot can be a great way to earn a little extra cash to the end of the year. You can't wait until the last minute to rent the lot and order the merchandise though. Tree growers want all orders in by October 1 at the latest. Getting your order in early will ensure you have the best chance to get the plants your customers are going to ask for. To be really successful, you need to buy the most popular plants from among the wholesale Christmas trees Virginia farms sell.

In most areas of the country, the Fraser Fir is the most popular holiday tree. This is for good reason. It has a beautiful blue-green color and is soft to the touch. Buyers love the almost perfect conical form most of the plants have. They also like the fact that the needles are short, and the branches have enough room between them to make decorating easy.

The Noble Fir is another great tree that most people like. It is deep green with graceful, artistically shaped branches. Decorating a Noble is easy because, like the Fraser, the branches are spaced well enough apart to make hanging ornaments easy for even a novice decorator. They can accommodate heavy ornaments handily.

Customers who have homes with wide open interior spaces may be looking for big, tall plants. The Grand Fir fits the bill for them. It is dark green in color and has soft, short needles like the Fraser and Noble. Unlike those trees however, the Noble fir branches aren't suited for really heavy ornaments. If your customer wants to make a dramatic statement, the Noble Fir could be a good choice.

For those who love the smell of a natural tree inside their homes, the Balsam Fir could be a good choice. It is extremely fragrant and very pretty with its dark green needles and attractive shape. Like the Grand Fir, the Balsam is not a good choice for families with lots of ornate and heavy ornaments. This tree don't hold them.

The only pine tree that consistently makes the top favorites list is the Eastern White Pine. They are easily recognizable because of their feathery like branches that have long soft needles. Many craftsmen believe these plants make the best garlands and wreaths. The White Pine is a lush, dense tree that doesn't lend itself well to hanging ornaments or particularly heavy ones.

If you don't carry the Douglas Fir, you will have some disappointed customers. It is in the same company as the Grand Fir in size. This is a great tree for customers with big interior spaces. This is a dense tree though. There's not much room between branches for long, hanging decorations.

If you want to see trees fly off your lot this year, you need to offer what people are looking for. Everybody has favorites, and the more varieties you offer, the more likely you are to make a sale. Buying the hardiest, healthiest, and best looking trees is the best way keep your customers coming back year after year.
