Designer Dog Crates For Your Four Legged Friend

By Amanda Gray

Thanks to the imagination and creativity of people who love their four legged friends like family, dog crates have evolved into dog condos of many designs. Designer dog crates are meant to blend into the decor as part of the interior design, not stand out like an unattractive metal cage. Now your pet can be part of the family while resting comfortably in the living room with everyone else.

Some designs are modern and look just like a tastefully chosen end table. Non suspecting guests will be surprised to hear your end table give a bark or two to say hello. Or maybe the guests will hear some soft snoring as your pet rests peacefully.

Some of the designs are more traditional with a heavier emphasis on woods like mahogany and oak stained in a wide variety of colors. For a room with a lot of deep brown tones, owners might want to go with an espresso stain. For a room with cooler, grey tones a black stain will blend right into the decor of the room. These also look like a piece of furniture.

Some dog owners have a lot of white in their living space or kitchen. There are designs available in lovely white finishes to complement this color scheme. Whether your pet is a pedigree or a mix breeds, he or she will live like royalty in their designer doggie condo right in the midst of the family activities.

There are crates designed to fit any room in your house. You can get several, so your pet is always able to be included in family activities. One for your bedroom, another for the living room and maybe a third for the entry, where your dog can greet you and any incoming guests. Where ever you are, your beloved pet will have a safe, warm place to rest.

There are also designs available in soft canvas over a metal or hard plastic structure. With roll up doors and window openings, you can put down the shades and allow the pet quiet time needed for a nap or overnight sleep. These designs will not be mistaken for furniture, but they are a lot more attractive than a metal cage.

If your pet is a large breed, there are also designs for larger dogs. These will be more expensive, but your large pet will be very comfortable. The opening will be wide enough to allow easy in and out access for your beloved pet. People with large dogs understand that their pets are five pound lap dogs at heart and need just as much love and attention.

Owners with two pets will be especially pleased with the side by side option. This design works best against a large wall and built right into a wall shelving unit. If the entry is big enough, this area will work also. There are lots of ideas on the web for do it yourself creative people. Some suggestions are to work with an existing table and use some draping cloth to cover the metal. The only limits are your imagination and your budget. Your dog will know he is loved as he climbs into his plush crate.
