Globally, people have made it a routine to monitor their health through regular visits to doctors. Annual physical exam is a multi-faceted and an important tool for following up the patients health. Many illnesses are diagnosed and treated early. The Annual Wellness Physical Examinations cover basic systems in the body such as, the heart, lung, gut and the nervous system. Aside from it being just physical, tests and screening are also part of the overall evaluation.

Physical exam is the examination the body to monitor how well it is performing and finding out pathologies that may be present but yet to be known. Generally, physical examination involves inspection, palpation, auscultation and percussion. It is reasonable to expect the doctor to know whom you are and get to form some sort of relationship with you.

It is important to write down information about your family and medical history particularly any information that might have changed since your last visit. Apart from just gathering information about you by watching and talking to you, the doctor can check some vital signs such as blood pressure, which normally, should range between eighty and a hundred and twenty.

These signs include your blood pressure, heart beat rates, respiration rate and your body temperature. Heart and lung assessment is carried out using a stethoscope. The aim is to detect any abnormal sound produced when breathing and during a heartbeat. Any unusual sound can be an indication of a lung or heat disease. Furthermore, when it comes to screening and testing, procedures may differ for both men and women.

Screening tests requested differ for both men and women. In women, a mammogram and pap smear are required every two years. Testing may be requested more or less frequent based on personal or family history of breast cancer. Additionally, osteoporosis screening is done to check bone density, and a pelvic exam is conducted to examine the vulva, vagina and cervix for any sign of sexually transmitted disease.

As women age, there can be deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D and changes in hormones, this leads to the bones becoming brittle and fragile from loss of tissues. Therefore, an osteoporosis is necessary to check the density of bones . A pelvic assessment is important to examine for any signs of STIs . In men, an annual prostate cancer screening is important. Testicle examination is also crucial for an early detection of testicular cancer. STIs can be detected through penile examinations.

Generally, neurological exam is conducted to assess for reflexes, nerves, muscles, balance and state of mind. Moreover, joints can be assessed for abnormalities. Cholesterol level is checked for both men and women especially to those with genetic predisposition to diabetes or heart diseases. Colorectal cancer or other risk factors are important to be screened to those over fifty years. People with immediate family members with colorectal cancer may need to be screened before the age of fifty.

It is important to adapt healthy living styles such as regular exercises, drinking plenty of water and food high in cholesterol. Most importantly avoid drinking and smoking. These healthy habits can be preventive measures to most chronic diseases. Healthy life styles can be adopted at any age.
