When a family first receives a puppy, they usually are very excited. But having a puppy is great, but along with that comes the responsibility of making sure your dog is properly trained. How to train a puppy is so important, that if not done right, leads to family strife, and sometimes the dog will get put into a shelter for adoption.

When you are asked how to train a puppy, you must have patience and time, because those little canines have loads of energy. If they are trained properly, the adjustment period for you will be shorter and not put as much stress on the family. Without proper training, your dog can get into some habits you will not like.

When starting on how to train a puppy, you will need to teach them their daily routines. These are simply showing them their food and water bowls, where they will be sleeping , and when the four legged members of the family will got to bed an wake up in the morning.

If you don't train your puppy the correct way, then your puppy will try and make you fit into their way of living, which will lead to behavior problems from the dog.

The first steps in how to train a puppy the right way is to teach them the "No" and "Good" commands when they are a couple of months old.Saying "No" needs to be said in the same, stern tone of voice each time, while "Good" also needs to be said in the same tone of voice each time, but not as stern like using the "No" word.

Body language is also important to making sure your dog knows what you are teaching. "No" and "Good" must be learned by your dog before any other word training can take place. One method of how to train a puppy that you should avoid is the use of dog biscuits.

When using dog biscuits, the dog will first decide if they are hungry, and if they aren't, then they will not obey your command. You can give your puppy a treat after they have done what you have asked of them.

Gaining respect of your dog is one of the most important training steps. They need to see you as the leader in your house, and without this respect, training will be difficult.
