By Patrick Baker

If you are looking for a new cat there are things you will want to learn about the breed of feline you will choose. Bengal kittens are among the most beautiful and exotic animals. However, before you bring one of these felines into your life you should learn about the breed. It is important to understand temperament and behavior of these gorgeous animals.

These unique cats are a crossbreed of Asian Leopard Cat and domestic felines. These cats were the result of mixing the two types of feline in the 1970s and 1980s to create one single breed. Through conscientious breeding the exquisiteness of the wild animal and the disposition of the domestic feline was been accomplished.

You will notice that the Bengal cat has a magnificent fur coat. It is soft and smooth to touch and beautiful to see. The fur glistens in light and has spotted and marbled patterns. Both the marbled and swirl pattern are a combination of 3 colors and different shades.

Bengal cats can be found in various colors. Silver, snow, blue, and brown are the most common of colors. The newer colors are chocolate, charcoal, and cinnamon. Snows are also known as Seal Mink, Seal Lynx Point, and Seal Sepia. Black and charcoal colored cats, known as melanistic, are also available. These felines are similar to a Panther in the way their spots are only visible in a certain light.

A Seal Lynx Point is of Siamese ancestry and always have bright blue eyes. The Seal Sepia is of Burmese ancestry and will never have blue eyes. The Seal Mink is a mix of Sepia and Lynx Point and can have any eye color. Even though the Seal Mink can have blue eyes, they are never as brilliant a blue as the Lynx Point.

These felines are rather large. Males weigh between ten and fifteen pounds and females between eight to twelve pounds. There are some that are larger and some smaller. With that in mind, if the kitten you choose does not grow to these weights there is no reason for concern. This breed is agile and strong, slim and athletic. Their back legs are slightly longer than the front giving them an arch to their back when they stand in certain positions.

Additional physical features of this breed include a small head in comparison to body size. The ears are also small and are suggestive of their ancestry. The ears will also have a patch of short fur that is shaped like a thumb. The thumbprint is similar to that of tabby cats. In addition, they have an M design on their forehead.

The breed can often be mischievous and very smart and need plenty of interactive play. They are also very vocal when they want food or their litter box cleaned, and like to play with people. They are easy to train and love the water. They are active, entertaining, and affectionate cats.
