Searching For Your Next At Old English Sheepdog Breeders

By John Brown

You can't find a more loving dog than the Old English Sheepdog. There are a number of ways to get this dog, but Old English Sheepdog Breeders specialize in the breed, and are a great source to get one with a pedigree in which you can feel confident. It is not the only way to get one, but a good one. They tend to be a bit pricey, though.

One way to achieve this dog is through rescue. It is a difficult dog so far as grooming is concerned, and is a very big dog. Many people get one, when it is a small puppy, then no longer want it when it gets big. Though it is a loving dog, loyal, and has many great characteristics, it does require constant grooming, and many people just don't want to do that, so give it up to a rescue shelter.

A very loving and loyal dog, these dogs are great with keeping children in the area they are supposed to be in. They were called nannies in the earliest days for this reason. However, they should never be left unattended with children, just as is true with any dog. There is never any assurance they won't hurt a child if the child gets rough with them.

This is a very large breed of job, with high maintenance requirements. These requirements include two needs. They need special grooming needs, and they need lots of exercise. They are not barkers, so would do well in an apartment, though if it is a small apartment, they may not do as well. All this should be considered before getting the dog, whether new or by rescue.

The dogs have several beneficial traits. They are good at herding, agility tasks, and obedience trials. They are also good at search and rescue exercises. They are super active and need to be kept busy. If they are left for a long time without having something to engage them, they will often get into mischief and be somewhat destructive.

A thick, dense double coat are typical of this dog. He is very muscular as well, with big, strong bones and a large behind. His very large, square head gives him lots of room for a large brain that gives him much intelligence. This means he must be kept busy to keep him out of mischief. He has brown or blue eyes, and sometimes one of each.

This dog runs with a bear-like shuffle, but are very nimble. They require regular exercise to keep their strong, able body in shape. They make great house dogs. They are watchful, courageous, kind, and intelligent. They are patient and protective with children, and make good watch dogs. They have a loud, ringing bark that makes them great as a watchdog, but do not bark excessively.

Though this is a wonderful, loving dog, if you plan to rescue one, it is important to understand the condition that many rescue dogs are in when they are adopted. They are usually being abandoned because the owner either doesn't choose to care for them, or can't for some reason. Often their coat is matted so thoroughly that they may have sores on their skin, and must be shaved completely. They may even have fecal matter or urine embedded in it. They may also have a severe flea infestation.
