Things To Know Before Purchasing A Cavachon Puppy For Sale

By Michelle Ward

A dog adds love to any home. For adults, they are amazing companions, and a pup can be a loving and loyal friend for children, with the added benefit of teaching them how to handle responsibility. There are, however, several things interested individuals should know before they purchase a Cavachon puppy for sale.

It is incredibly important for any individual to learn as much about their desired type of dog before committing to ownership of one. With literally thousands of breeds available and each of them being unique in characteristics, health concerns, quirks, and behavioral habits, this is essential. This is very true regarding Cavachons.

The first thing anyone with their heart set on owning Cavachons should know is that these are not purebred dogs. They are what is considered as a "designer" breed, meaning that two other breeds - in this case, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise - are intentionally mated to produce offspring with specific characteristics. Because getting a successful blend is somewhat difficult, the puppies can be expensive and there may be a waiting list.

With designer dogs, one must understand that while there are basic expectations about the behaviors and physical characteristics, there can be no absolute guarantee that they will be present. The best results are mostly found in first generation pups, though a single litter could yield varied degrees of success. Mating two full Cavvies will probably result in offspring with traits more geared towards one of the base breeds.

As both of the parent dogs are in the Toy category, this is a small breed that typically only reaches about 13" and 18lbs when fully matured. Their coats are mostly shades of white or brown but can come in a range of colors, and are generally thick, soft, and silky, with either slight waves or big curls. The fur is also low shed and low dander, which is perfect for homes with allergy sufferers in it.

This type of dog is well-suited for small apartments as well as homes with spacious yards, although they were not designed to be exclusively outside pets. Before choosing to adopt this breed, individuals should be sure they can commit the time required to exercise their pet, as they are rather energetic. Playing games or taking daily walks will stimulate them both mentally and physically.

This breed is known for forming intense bonds with people and having huge cravings for companionship, so interested individuals need to understand that their pup will want plenty of attention. Cavachons are quick learners and highly intelligent, which means that socialization and obedience training should start very young. Doing so will have a significant impact on behavioral control.

Doing preemptive research about the breed and speaking with qualified breeders could be a huge asset. It is quite beneficial to understand standard expectations for the grooming, health, and behavioral norms of these puppies. Pet ownership is a step that should be handled with great responsibility to make it most pleasurable.
