Some Useful Information On Cavachon Puppies

By William Graham

Many first time owners sometimes are confused about what dog to get first. Many will just rely on what are traditional accepted breeds like shepherds, bulldogs, Chihuahuas and so on. In general these popular breeds are basically almost pure breeds. A breed that is fast growing popular is actually a cross breed or hybrid called the cavachon. Thus if you are interested in this breed then do read on for more information about cavachon puppies and dogs in general.

The breed came about in the mid-1990s, or so most people and breeders believe, when a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel was bred or mated with a Bichon Frise. The result of course is a cross breed that is slowly taking the world by storm, most probably due to its cuteness and such. It is a small breed dog that takes sporting traits from the spaniel and non sporting lapdog traits from the Bichon Frise.

Once these dogs mature they will reach a height of one foot or just a little over one foot. And depending on how much they are fed, they will reach a weigh of around fifteen to thirty five pounds at most. In terms of diet they should be given specific small bred formulas designed for dogs with active and energetic lives.

When taking about temperament, it is really kind of tough to put a finger on it for this breed. This is because it will take equal traits from its birth parents of spaniel and bichon frise, and so you can have mixed results. Either you will get a frisky and friendly pooch, or one that is very aloof and discriminating.

The average lifespan for this dog breed is around 10 to 15 years, which is pretty good considering a dog of its size. The lifespan can also be extended with loving care and maintenance, as well as regular trips to the vet for check ups as it gets older.

Exercise is also important for this breed, due to its sporting bloodline. They should be taken at least for a thirty minute walk every day to stretch their legs, especially if they spend their time mostly indoors. Active playtime is also highly encouraged not only for exercise but for bonding as well. It will have a nit of energy in it, and you as an owner should also have a bit of energy as well.

The hair or fur of this breed is somewhat hypoallergenic. For although the fur of the bichon frise is hypoallergenic, the spaniel's is unfortunately not. So definitely do not believe all of the claims that this breed is hypoallergenic, for it will have a chance that it is not. In any case, it may be best to test for allergies if you are prone to any canine allergies at the moment just to be sure.

This article has thus covered some basic but important facts for anyone to know about this dog breed. One should mull this information carefully and do additional research into other factors as well like pricing and training for example. Remember to always get as much information as you can on a pet before committing to living with it.
