Know These Things Before Becoming Siberian Cat Breeders

By Ryan Meyer

Being a breeder is another level of cat lover. This is taking the love for felines on to a level of in depth knowledge by making sure that their species continue to be properly domesticated. The job of being a breeder is not as easy as it sounds.

Pure bred kittens are adorable and have great temperament. Siberian cats are especially tamed and affectionate which makes them a great choice. Like all registered Siberian Cat breeders Georgia has a wide array of selections to choose from. If one wants to be a part of this breeder society, there are some prerequisites to consider.

This is an expensive hobby to take up. This is also not the road to a business and fast money. The expenditure on food, medical bills, supplies and so on are very high and may not even break even with the initial investment. To gain a substantial amount of money in breeding means that the breeder is already renowned in the community.

The Siberian feline is a great choice to be a breed expert on. These felines are known for their beauty, great health and exceptional temperament. Know every detail that there is to know about the cattery one is planning to build. Pay close attention to their bone structure, bloodline and genetic history. It always pays to ask other breeders for advice.

Ask around for tips and expert knowledge from those who have been in the business for a while. They should know a thing or two that cannot be found on the books. Getting someone for mentorship can be a bit difficult though. Knowing these people is also a good move to grow ones network and credibility as a breeder.

Basic responsibilities include grooming, cleaning and feeding the litter. All these, and monitoring, especially with a pregnant feline can be an all day task. This will ensure that the creatures will remain healthy and pristine. Doing this prepares the felines for showmanship and purchase. Expect not to have time for going on long trips out of town.

Consider the damage that might be done to the house. If one is considering to take up this hobby, then there is some extensive knowledge on life with cats as pets. Fur everywhere is expected since Siberians are know to shed a good amount. About four out of five stars. Feline bodily substances from time to time be found in random places, so it best to expect it.

It is not recommended to buy many cats to start with. Best to start out with one or two females, also known as queens. For beginner breeders it is best to mate the female with the male cat of another instead of breeding the male yourself. But if there is a male cat in the cattery, make sure that he is separated from the females so he does not have access to them the whole time.

Finding a stud, or a male cat can be difficult especially if one is looking for a specific type of the breed. Breeders with a stud also ask for mating fees and other documents that will make sure that the female feline is free of dangerous illnesses such as feline AIDS and leukemia. Looking for the perfect mate may have the breeder travel far and wide, if necessary.
