The Secret To A Tantrum Free Toddler

By Ruth Graham

Some people might think that having a child who does not throw fits constantly and always has to have his or her way is simply part of life, and that there is no way to avoid it. However, this does not have to be true if the right steps in parenting are taken and the right skills are learned. Although it is not always easy, any parent can have a tantrum free toddler.

One main principle that can benefit anyone trying to teach their kids to behave better is that children learn from and imitate the behavior of their parents. This means that any behavior that the parent presents to the child will, in some way or another, be reflected back upon them. It can be a shocking revelation when trying to figure out why a child acts a certain way when the parent takes a step back and looks at the way he or she acts.

While it may be tempting to tell toddlers "no" to everything they do, it is important to go a little deeper than that sometimes. These toddlers are curious about the world, and understanding their intentions helps a lot with parenting them. It is a lack of patience that is the cause of the "terrible twos".

It might seem like a no-brainer that everyone should treat others the way they wish to be treated. It is still surprising for some to hear that the same general rule should be applied to their children. A child should be given understanding and disciplined in a way that they will understand, rather than making them resent the discipliner.

An important thing to understand and keep in mind is that children are human beings, and expecting them to act otherwise is sure to present problems. There have been numerous parents who try to tell their kids that they have to sit and be quiet for long periods of time without ever realizing how unrealistic of an expectation this is. The expectations put upon children must be reasonable.

It is tempting as a parent to try to control your kids' lives fully. It is important to steer clear of this mentality, since children are individuals like all other human beings. Trying to oppress their individuality can never end well.

A helpful way to think of parenting is as a guide for your child, rather than an empirical ruler. This makes it easier to accept when toddlers make their own decisions. Doing this leads to a more positive relationship.

One of the primary things that all kids need is plenty of quality time. If not enough time is spent with the child in which they're given full, genuine attention, they are likely to act out to get the attention. Finding activities to do together is a big help.
