Happier Companions Begin With Proper Dog Nutrition

By Dorothy Watson

Pet food has been in the news quite a bit in the last few years. Unfortunately, much of that news is extremely sad and shocking. The fact is, the majority of pet owners couldn't believe what they heard, and that they contributed to their pets poor health in feeding them unhealthy food. Therefore, it is essential to learn all about dog nutrition to ensure this ends, because after all, they are an important part of the family.

In fact, many people see them as family members. It is these little guys that greet their loved ones at the door each and every time. They are the most loving and faithful creatures who only want to show their love to their owners. These four-legged family members really do deserve the best when it comes to food.

That said, there are trusted companies out there that betrayed both the animals and consumers who love their pets. Questionable ingredients that aren't even considered food were found in dog food that was manufactured, often overseas. Therefore, as consumers, it's time to step up to the plate and do the right thing for the pets that don't have a voice and can't have a say in the matter.

Doing the right thing means starting off by reading the label on each bag or can of food. From there, it means doing the research on the ingredients, from A to Z. Next, it means reading up on the particular company's reputation, and where other pet owners exchange opinions, views, and vital information.

Consider that the majority of ingredients that go into the cheaper dog foods are not nutritious and don't respond to the needs of any member of the canine family. If one would compare such food to human food that is served at popular chain restaurants, there wouldn't be much difference. So, imagine what happens to a dog's health when he is consuming two or three such meals each day for his entire life. Reports do exist so don't neglect the information.

Watch the documentaries that clearly describe what happened to people who eat food like this on a regular basis. In one documentary, the actor was to eat only this type of food, whether it was salad or burgers every day for one month. His health diminished, and he gained a great deal of weight, and that's exactly what will occur to dogs who are given cheap food to eat.

This inexpensive food contains a lot of strange ingredients, sugar, fat, and more. Canines by nature were not meant to eat that way. Such food will make them gain an excessive amount of weight, while the sugar and fat will eventually attack their organs and shorten their lifespan.

Nutritious dog food is naturally more expensive, but well worth it in the end. Those who love their dogs, which are most people, will, once they understand the difference, switch to something better. It's the least they can do considering how much loyalty, companionship, and often protection their four-legged family members provide them with. In giving them the nutrients they need, mixed in with plenty of love and exercise, people will be giving their dogs a chance to live longer and healthier lives.
