By Gary Carter

The Egyptian cat is a breed of felines whose origin can be traced to the country of Egypt in Africa. In fact, the other name that is used to refer to the feline is the Pharaoh cat. As such, owners with allergies experience lesser instances of allergy. The are available in a wide variety of colors with blue, black, silver, and smoke being among the most common.

These cats need little maintenance. This is because their coat is short and the shading of their hair is not as much as in other species. In order to keep their coat in proper shape, cleaning must be done occasionally. Grooming is essential because it stimulates circulation, avoids matting, and removes plucked hair. It is sufficient to groom it weekly. An expert pet cleaner can be hired to do the work in a professional way every once in a while.

Compared to other common breeds, Egyptians do not have as much health issues. Thus, they are suitable for owners who do not have much experience with keeping cats. When buying, it is important to ensure that the kitten is tested for any genetic health conditions before buying. One should request for a certificate for every kitten acquired.

This breed is very friendly to people, other pets, and animals. It forms strong bonds with their owners and enjoy playing with little kids as well. However, for safety reasons, kids younger than 6 years should not be left to play with the cat or any other pet for that matter. The breed also exhibits a high level of intelligence.

Lastly, vocalization is moderate in this breed. Usually, they vocalize when they are in the presence of certain stimuli.
